Social Media and Web Presence

Web Journalism

At Noblesville High School, the NHS News and Mill Stream staffs share the same website, MillerMediaNow.org. On this website, readers are able to find all of the print stories from the Mill Stream, as well as many original pieces for the web. Readers are also able to find all of the content produced by the NHS News team. During my junior and senior years, as someone who held editor positions on both staffs, I made it my goal to use MillerMediaNow to combine the efforts of both staffs and increase our output of multimedia pieces. Below, I have included some of the web exclusive stories I have written as well as some of the multimedia pieces I have worked on.

Web Exclusive Stories

"The Pursuit of Knowledge"

“The Pursuit of Knowledge” tackles some of the questions around teacher education. In this story, I worked with teachers with a variety of college educations and discussed the pros and cons of our educators working towards advanced degrees. Through this story, readers are able to see behind the scenes of our education system and get teachers' perspective on college.

"Who Will He Be Tonight"
“Who Will He Be Tonight” is a web only story, and my first story of my senior year. This piece tells the story of Ethan Feliciano, a multi-sport athlete who is also one of the best violinists in the state of Indiana and how he balances all these commitments with his academics and an active social life. A broadcast video package centered around Feliciano is currently being produced and will be packaged with the story as a multimedia piece soon.

"Tipp Off"

“Tipp Off” is a multimedia story centered around Meredith Tippner, one of the best basketball and soccer players in Indiana. This was a piece I was able to work with as both a broadcast editor and as a sports editor for the newspaper.

"Family Business"

“Family Business” is a multimedia package centered around the Fine Family, a family that has been the heart of the Millers basketball program in recent years. Matt Fine is a coach for Noblesville's team which, in the 2023-24 season, was led by senior Aaron Fine, now a Purdue basketball player, and sophomore Adam Fine, both sons of Matt Fine. This package details the family dynamics of competition and leadership and the balance that comes with. This story is amongst some of my favorites I have produced.

Social Media

Noblesville's Journalists have employed social media as a reliable method to get eyes on our content. Our broadcast program uses sideline reporting at sporting events and footage from school programs in order to draw eyes to the content we produce. The Mill Stream uses social media as a method to get stories out to those who can't get their hands on a copy of the paper, as well as a way to get traffic to our website MillerMediaNow. Noblesville also has another journalism program, Miller Sports Media, that is a primarily social media based publication focused on sports photography, videography, and infographics. This program was founded in my second year, and I have helped work with many other staffers since day one to build it into what it is today. Below, I have attached examples to all of these posts.

Story Promotion

As a way to promote our print and web stories, the Mill Stream often posts photos associated with new stories and a caption describing the story. This is a good way to get eyes on new stories or stories that are coming soon. The post on the right promotes a story I wrote during my junior year, where the caption provides the beginning of the story and informs the audience where they can read more.

Sideline Reporting

During my first year of staff, we began doing sideline reports as a way to increase audience engagement and provide live updates to as many people as possible. These videos are not only fun and efficient to produce but are frequently our best performing content.
