Broadcast Journalism
Broadcast journalism was my introduction to the world of journalism. I first joined my school's broadcast program, NHS News, my sophomore year. From the moment I stepped into that class room I was in love. I loved our culture, the people on staff, and most of all, the work we did. I first became infatuated with our daily show, the ten minute news show our staff works together to broadcast to the whole school every day. The daily show was unlike anything I had ever worked on. It took all 15 people on staff working bell-to-bell to put out our product, yet it was so remarkably consistent and enjoyable. I then got an opportunity to work on an Around the County story, our name for our video newsmagazine. It was here I truly knew that journalism was my calling. I loved the flexibility, the fact that I could shape the story in whatever way I thought the story deserved to be told. I got to work with stories in sports, art, and of the countless incredible stories of my peers. Below, I have attached examples of my work in both of these categories.
Around The County
"Family Business"
“Family Business” is a video package centered around the Fine family, a family that has been the heart of the Millers’ basketball program in recent years. Matt Fine is a coach for Noblesville's team which, in the 2023-24 season, was led by Matt sons, senior Aaron Fine, now a Purdue basketball player, and sophomore Adam Fine. This package details the family dynamics of competition and leadership and the balance that comes with that dynamic. This story was part of a multimedia piece including a print version of the story. You can view that package by clicking this link.
"Pass to Kas"
“Pass To Kas” was a video package centered around Noblesville soccer star Kasole Williams. Williams, at the time a junior, had spent the previous three years as a part of F.C. Cincinnati's MLS Next Academy playing semi-professional soccer. In 2024, Williams made his return to Noblesville's soccer program where he would eventually help lead the team to their third consecutive state title while being named first team All State by the IndyStar. This package details the start of the Millers season and Williams' return to the program.
"The Mystery Mascot"
“The Mystery Mascot” is a video package centered around the mysterious Miller Man. In Noblesville's early history, it was common to see the Miller Man on the sidelines at sporting events. This tradition would not last, as the Miller Man went missing for multiple decades. During the 2021-22 school year, however, the Miller Man made his return. This package follows Jose Flores, the unknown face behind the Miller Man, and serves as the first public announcement of the Miller Man's identity just a few months before Flores' graduation.
